Thiruvananthapuram: A 20-year-old fitness trainer was seriously injured after she was stabbed by a man at a gym in Plamoottukada near Neyyattinkara on Monday morning. The injured Kavya C is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Neyyattinkara.The incident occurred around 9.30am. Her assailant Ashwanth, a native of Parassala, allegedly attempted suicide after the attack by consuming rat poison and slashing his wrist, police said. According to police, Ashwanth, a regular visitor to the gym, barged into the premises and attacked Kavya with a knife he had brought with him. She sustained two stab injuries on the back of her head and one on the chest. He then reportedly attempted suicide. Hearing her screams, locals and gym staff rushed to the spot and found both lying in a pool of blood. Kavya was first rushed to Neyyattinkara general hospital and later shifted to a private hospital. According to hospital authorities, she is out of danger. Ashwanth was first taken to Neyyattinkara general hospital. After his condition worsened, he was later shifted to medical college hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, for advanced treatment. Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack stemmed from unrequited love. “The accused told us he was in love with the victim. However, she said she was only acquainted with him and had rejected any such relationship. More details will emerge after further questioning,” said an officer from Parassala police station.Police said Ashwanth’s arrest would be recorded soon.
