Gorakhpur: A 25-year-old woman died after an acid attack in Kushinagar district, while her mother remains in critical condition.The incident took place late on Thursday night at Morwan village under Ramkola police station. According to the police, unidentified assailants allegedly entered the house through the roof and threw acid on the woman and her mother while they were asleep. The attackers then locked the room from outside and fled the spot.Family members rushed to the room after hearing their screams and found both victims in severe pain. They were first taken to a nearby community health centre and later referred to Gorakhpur Medical College due to their critical condition. The woman, identified as Kajal Yadav, succumbed to injuries during treatment, while her mother, 55 years old Leelawati,continues to battle for life.Kajal, a graduate, lived with her parents, younger brother and a nephew. Her father, a retired coal mine worker, had returned home just two months ago.Police said a case has been registered against two suspects based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother. “Five teams have been formed to nab the accused,” said SP Keshav Kumar.Senior police officials, including the DIG Gorakhpur range, visited the spot and monitored the investigation.
