2 Kids Among 3 Injured In Accident Near Ghazipur Toll Booth
The victims were identified as Neelam Garg, 55, a homemaker, and her 38-year-old daughter Deepanjali, also known as Deepti. Neelam’s son Deepanshu Garg (28) and Deepanjali’s sons, Vivan (5) and Vashu (3), sustained injuries in the crash.Cops at Ghazipur police station were alerted to the incident by a PCR call at 6.43am. When police reached the spot, they found that the SUV, coming from the Ghaziabad side, had hit the container truck stationed near the MCD toll booth.“Deepanjali was seated in the passenger seat and was found trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Neelam, who was sitting directly behind her on the left side, was flung onto the road due to the impact of the collision,” said additional CP (East) Abhishek Dhania. The two children were seated behind their uncle Deepanshu, who was driving.Following the collision, the vehicle veered onto the wrong side on the highway and was found some distance away from the container truck. Police had to cut open a portion of the front left door and window to extricate Deepanjali from the wreckage. Both women, who were seated on the left side of the SUV, died on the spot.“The SUV was travelling at over 100 kmph at the time of the crash,” said another police officer. While Deepanshu was hurt in the legs, the children also suffered injuries. Relatives said Vashu is stated to be in a serious condition and has been advised to undergo brain surgery. The three are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The family said Neelam and Deepanshu had travelled to Dehradun to bring Deepanjali and her children back to Delhi. They left Dehradun around 2am and were heading back to their home in Rohini’s Sector 7 when the accident occurred. The family often used to travel during early morning hours to avoid traffic, police said, adding that they are investigating if Deepanshu was drowsy or dozed off while driving.Locals said the stretch near the toll plaza is a busy route used by commuters travelling between Delhi, UP and Uttarakhand, and it is common for truck drivers to briefly park their vehicles near the MCD booth while stepping out to pay toll tax.The mangled white SUV, now stationed outside Ghazipur police station, bears extensive structural damage, particularly on the front passenger side and roof. The impact sheared off the A-pillar and peeled back the roof, exposing the cabin. The front portion was crushed, with mechanical components visible, while the windscreen was shattered. The airbags were activated, and the seatbelts were intact and fastened.A case has been registered at Ghazipur police station and the truck driver is being questioned by police to ascertain the sequence of events.
