Ludhiana: A woman was arrested on Saturday night after she allegedly desecrated idols at a temple in Bhagat Singh Colony, prompting swift intervention by onlookers who restrained her until police arrived.The accused, identified as from Salem Tabri, was handed over to the area’s police after she reportedly entered the temple premises and began striking idols with her slippers. Complainant Rajesh Kumar ‘Pali Sehajpal’ is a local resident. Assistant sub-inspector Kashmir Singh, who leads this investigation, said police had registered a case against the woman under Sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 351(2,3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The motive behind the act remains unclear. Police are questioning the woman to determine whether the act was premeditated or driven by mental distress. Authorities have urged the public to maintain peace as the investigation continues.
