Noida: A woman pursuing law has alleged that her former husband assaulted her and her brother in an attempt to coerce her into withdrawing an FIR lodged against him in Delhi. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.The complainant, identified as Sonam, is a resident of Vasundhara in Ghaziabad. She was married to Puneet Bhati for around seven years before the couple divorced.In her complaint, Sonam stated that on Friday morning, she had gone to the Ishan Institute of Management in Noida to appear for an exam. As she was leaving the premises, Bhati allegedly intercepted her car and attempted to persuade her to withdraw the FIR she had previously filed. When she refused, he allegedly grew aggressive, insulted her, snatched her phone, and forcibly entered her car, where he physically assaulted her.According to the complaint, Sonam then called the police helpline number 112, following which both she and Bhati were taken to the Knowledge Park police station. Her parents and brother also reached the station shortly after. It was at the police station, Sonam alleged, that Bhati assaulted her brother and hurled abuses at her mother.Based on her statement, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and Section 78 (stalking).“We are trying to verifying the allegations and have launched an investigation. Necessary action will be taken based on the findings,” said a senior police officer. Police said further inquiries are ongoing and statements from all parties involved are being recorded.
