Kanpur: A woman from Panki in Kanpur accused her husband of forcing her to drink alcohol, showing obscene videos and forcing her to perform unnatural acts. She also accused her father-in-law of indecent behaviour, barging into her room, molesting her and tearing her clothes. Acting on directions of the police commissioner, Panki police registered a case against the woman’s husband and seven of her in-laws and began investigation.The woman, resident of Ratanpur, said she completed a hotel management course and met a young man while working at a hotel in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. She said they had a love affair and got married on Apr 24, 2024 and that approximately Rs 12 lakh was spent on the wedding, including gifts and dowry.She alleged that her in-laws taunted her for bringing less dowry and demanded Rs 10 lakh. She said when she refused, they beat her up and threw her out of the house.She also alleged that her husband forced her to drink alcohol with him, showed obscene videos on his mobile phone and forced unnatural relations. She said when she resisted, she was frequently beaten up. According to the woman, one night her father-in-law barged into her room and attempted to rape her and when she resisted, he tore her clothes. She said other family members arrived only when she raised an alarm. Panki police inspector Manoj Bhadauriya said, “A case has been registered and investigation is underway.”
