Mangaluru: Police arrested a woman accused of stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh from a house in Sullia, along with an accomplice, and recovered the stolen items.According to the complaint filed by Punyashree, 20, a resident of Sullia Kasaba, her father had financial dealings with the accused, Shruti alias Vishmitha, 37, to whom he had lent around Rs 6 lakh. When the family asked her to repay the amount, she agreed and visited their house on April 7.Later that day, after the family members left home and returned in the evening, they found the cupboard key lying out of place. Upon checking, they discovered that gold ornaments weighing about 62.5g, valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh, were missing. Suspecting Shruti, who had visited the house earlier, a complaint was lodged at Sullia police station.Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the BNS. During the investigation, police arrested the accused, Shruti and her associate Pradeep, who allegedly assisted in the crime. Upon interrogation, the stolen gold jewellery was recovered from them.Valuables worth Rs 10.7 lakh stolenIn a reported burglary case, unidentified miscreants decamped with gold ornaments, luxury watches and other valuables worth over Rs 10.7 lakh from an apartment in Ullal taluk.According to the complaint filed by Mohammed Hashil Sadiq, the theft occurred between the night of March 18 and the morning of April 9 at his apartment on the 11th floor of a residential complex near KS Hegde Medical College in Deralakatte. The burglars are suspected to have entered the house in the absence of occupants and accessed a bedroom cupboard locker. Stolen items include a 24-gram diamond necklace with earrings, a 16-gram gold chain, an 8-gram gold ring, a ladies’ Rado watch worth Rs 2 lakh, a platinum ring weighing 8g, and a watch valued at Rs 3.5 lakh, it is learnt. The total estimated value of the stolen property is around Rs 10.7 lakh. Based on the complaint, a case was registered, and police launched an investigation to trace the accused.
