The weather change was driven by convective activity triggered by daytime heating, IMD said.Gurgaon: Gusty winds and intermittent light rain brought down the city’s temperatures on Tuesday, which started with a sunny and clear sky. By noon, the weather shifted as clouds gradually built up over the skyline, strong winds picked up pace, and light rainfall fell in some areas.According to IMD, the weather change was driven by convective activity triggered by daytime heating. “After the recent western disturbance passed, temperatures began to rise again under clear conditions. This heating leads to the development of convective clouds, which can trigger isolated thunderstorms, especially over south Haryana,” an IMD official said.Intermittent drizzle continued till around 6pm in some parts, aiding a marginal dip in temperatures. At the Gurgaon KVK observatory, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32.8 degrees Celsius, down from 33.7 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum settled at 17.9 degrees Celsius, compared to 19 degrees Celsius on the previous day. At NorthCap University’s monitoring station, the maximum temperature was 34.5 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than 34.6 degrees Celsius recorded a day earlier, while the minimum dropped to 19.4 degrees Celsius from 20.9 degrees Celsius.Rainfall, however, remained scattered. While no precipitation was recorded at the Gurgaon KVK station, NorthCap University logged 2 mm of rainfall till 5.30 pm. IMD said that unlike western disturbances that have a broader and more predictable impact, convection is highly localised. It depends on factors like heat and humidity.“As temperatures rise during the day, isolated pockets in the state saw thunderstorm development. Another western disturbance is expected to influence the region on April 2, which could lead to more rainfall activity,” the official added. The maximum temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the next four days, before dipping again by 3-4 degrees Celsius under the influence of the approaching weather system.Meteorologists said the frequent spells of clouding, rain and muted temperature rise over the past two weeks are because of relatively active western disturbances and the influence of upper-level wind patterns, including the subtropical jet stream shifting slightly southwards.Haryana recorded 14.7 mm rainfall in March this year, around 3% below the normal of 15.1 mm, while Gurgaon received 12.5 mm rainfall against a normal of 10.3 mm, registering a surplus of 22%.
