Rajkot: Rajkot B Division police have registered a complaint against a 26-year-old silversmith from West Bengal who allegedly absconded with over Rs 24 lakh worth of silver taken for polishing from two traders in the city.According to the complainant, Darshil Vora, who runs a silver ornaments unit on Kuwadva Road, the accused, Rejarul Sheikh, took 9.7kg of 82-touch silver — equivalent to 7.9kg of pure silver worth Rs 12.53 lakh — on Nov 20 for polishing. Vora said Sheikh had been working with him for the past six months and had always returned the material on time. The complaint was filed on Nov 25.When the silver was not returned for three days, Vora called Sheikh, but both his phone numbers were switched off. He then visited the worker’s rented house in Mengo Market, only to find it locked. The landlord said Sheikh often travelled and they did not know where he had gone.After Vora alerted the local trade association, it surfaced that another trader, Jemin Sorathiya, had also given 7.358kg of pure silver worthRs 11 lakh to Sheikh on the same day. That silver too was not returned.The traders later found his house locked. Sheikh, a native of Fatehpur in Hooghly district of West Bengal, is still untraceable. Police have registered a case under Section 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
