Mangaluru: In the wake of reports related to the pollution at Phalguni River in Kuloor-Rayikatte area, Mangaluru City North MLA Dr Y Bharat Shetty inspected the area and directed officials to take appropriate action, on Monday. Following the MLA’s directions, officials from KSPCB conducted tests to examine the quality of river water, while fisheries department officials inspected area to assess the cause behind the death of fish in the river.As a continuation of these efforts, the concerned department officials initiated measures to clean the river and prevent further fish deaths. The Phalguni (Gurupura) River near Kuloor and Rayikatte turned polluted, with dead fish floating on the surface, causing distress in nearby areas. Last week, Nagarika Horata Samiti, Surathkal, alleged that untreated industrial effluents including those in Baikampady industrial area, were discharged into streams that merged with the river. Despite complaints from villagers over the past week, no concrete action was taken, the committee said.
