Kolkata: Questioning the election process in Bengal and calling it “mockery”, former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said her party would have got 200 plus seats but the outcome was altered and criticized logical discrepancies, rigging at counting centres during the recent assembly polls and flagged the arrest of the Municipal councillors in the recent days.

“Was this truly an election, or merely a mockery in the name of democracy? Nearly one crore names were removed due to logical discrepancies. Rigging took place at counting centres. BJP workers allegedly entered wearing uniforms of the central forces. Our agents’ ID cards were snatched away. I do not like naming the person in power, as I have known him for a long time. I, along with opposition representatives, was removed from the counting centres,” Banerjee said.

“The people are not at fault. We would have won over 200 seats, but the outcome was altered. If they had truly won, why is there no celebration among the people? she questioned.

“For the last 20 days, we have silently endured everything,” Banerjee said ina Facebook Video message adding, “Many people have been killed, and several have been forced to resign. Even the Kolkata Municipal Corporation is not being allowed to function properly. The Mayor and the Chairman are unaware, yet the Corporation is making decisions. Hearings are not conducted, and actions are imposed through force. People struggle their entire lives to build a house.”

“I am not against the administration, but you are the protectors of the law. If you violate the law, you will be subject to its jurisdiction. I will also see whether the Constitution is greater than the barrel of a gun,” Banerjee said.
“I have also run an administration before. I know how governments, parties, and boards function. During my tenure, 30% of Panchayats were under opposition control, but we never forced them to stop working. At that time, they received every kind of central security support by using the Centre’s power.
“The Centre misused its authority and withheld all state funds for five years. It has become evident now,” she said. “Today, the protector has become the predator.”
Banerjee expressed her displeasure on how the Municipal councillors are being arrested every day. “Those shouting ‘Chor, Chor’ are all outsiders. They do not understand Bengal’s culture, which is why bulldozer politics is being used,” she said.
