Opposition Senator Ryan Walters has warned constituents of St James North that they “cannot trust this Government”.
Addressing a Democratic Labour Party meeting in Reservoir Road, Ashton Hall, St Peter, on Saturday night, he accused the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) administration of a litany of unfulfilled promises made since assuming office in 2018.
“The relationship between Members of Parliament and their constituents is based on trust. The relationship between the Government and the citizens of a country is based on trust,” he declared. “You cannot trust this Government, because they have not lived up to their word. We have proof that they have said one thing but are doing another.”

Walters said the BLP’s promises made before the 2018 General Election were nothing more than empty rhetoric.
Citing a series of financial burdens placed on Barbadians, he reminded the audience of the rapid implementation of multiple taxes on June 11, 2018, shortly after the BLP assumed office.
“They said you cannot tax your way out of a recession, but within less than 20 days, this Government . . . they pour the taxes down your throat.
“The fuel tax, do you remember that? The health service contribution levy, out of your National Insurance, out of your pay pack, do you remember that? Value added tax (VAT) on online transactions, do you remember that? Airline travel and Tourism Development Tax – meaning whenever you leave Barbados you have to pay a tax – do you remember that?”
