Guwahati: Violence broke out in Maova village under Medziphema subdivision of Nagaland’s Chumoukedima district on Friday morning following a land dispute between members of Kuki and Angami communities.According to Maova village council said three private houses have been damaged, 17 roadside shops and a community halls and a guest house and an office of council were set ablaze, while multiple vehicles, including two-wheelers, were damaged.
Dimapur police commissioner’s office described the incident as “sudden and unfortunate”, involving the Chakroma Public Organisation and Maova villageAuthorities said the situation is now under control, with security forces deployed and normal traffic movement restored. “The govt has urged the public to maintain peace and not take the law into their own hands,” an official statement said.Nagaland deputy chief minister Yanthungo Patton expressed concern on X, writing, “Deeply concerned by the recent incidents of violence and arson reported in Maova village. Any act that disrupts peace and endangers lives and property is a matter of serious concern. I urge all those involved to remain calm, exercise restraint, and allow lawful and constructive processes to address grievances.”
