Chennai: TVK president Vijay wrote to chief electoral officer Archana Patnaik on Wednesday, alleging inadequate security at his election rallies. He sought additional police at his party rallies.Vijay alleged that police failed to provide adequate personnel to ensure safety during his Kolathur rally. He said this resulted in a “dangerous surge”, forcing him to cut his campaign short. “Due to the reluctance and wilful inaction of police who are close to the ruling party, I am seeing a pattern of wilful disruption preventing me from continuing the election campaign and perform my democratic duties,” he wrote. He sought transfer of the DGP, city police commissioner, ADGP (intelligence and law and order), and GCC commissioner.General secretary Aadhav Arjuna, in a separate letter, cited incidents during his Villivakkam campaign on Tuesday, where glass bottles were allegedly thrown at cadres. Aadhav said that he “came to know from reliable sources” that there was a threat to his life from political rivals. Meanwhile, social media was abuzz that TVK had mistakenly sent a complaint to Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, addressing him as Union home secretary. The letter alleged there were lapses in the security provided to Vijay. TVK leaders denied sending such a letter.
