Chennai: TVK president Vijay on Saturday flew to Delhi as CBI has summoned him for the third time on Sunday as part of its probe into the Sept 27 Karur stampede in which 41 people died. Both TVK and BJP denied that Vijay’s visits to Delhi, including the two in Jan, had anything to do with moves to rope him into the NDA fold or with efforts to get censor board approval for his film ‘Jana Nayagan’.BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran told reporters in Chennai, “I have no idea about it. Maybe you (reporters) know better than me.”Former BJP state president K Annamalai said NDA does not need any party to win in Tamil Nadu. “NDA is strong and does not expect any party in the alliance. The March 17 protest (against DMK govt) is proof that we are strong and coordinated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited three times and will come twice or thrice again after election dates are announced. We are travelling on our path,” Annamalai told reporters in Coimbatore.TVK deputy general secretary C T R Nirmal Kumar on X asked TVK functionaries not to believe rumours and to wait for official word from the party. “These (speculations) are circulated with the intention to divert attention from public issues,” he said, and blamed it on a section of the media and social media.Earlier, there was a minor delay when Vijay checked in at Chennai airport to leave for Delhi by a chartered flight. Sources in Airports Authority of India said that, during routine scanning, a pair of scissors was found in Vijay’s bag, and it was disposed of.
