Rourkela: The 15 day-long Vedvyas fair at the famed Vedvyas temple in Rourkela, located on the banks of the Brahmani river, kicked off on Sunday on the auspicious occasion of Shivratri. About 700 vending stalls have been put up at the fair, featuring a wide variety of items, such as toys, cosmetics, fancy items, shoes, household stuff, handicraft and various types of food items. Many other vendors from different parts of the country have also taken part in this year’s fair.Gulab C Kaushik, executive officer of the Vedvyas Trust Board, said, “All necessary arrangements have been made for visitors and we are optimistic that lakhs of people will visit here.” To maintain law and order, three additional SPs, five DSPs, 13 inspectors, 66 sub-inspectors and ASIs, 284 home guards and 10 platoon police forces have been deployed at the fair.
