In February 2024, SP MLAs Manoj Kumar Pandey (Unchahar), Abhay Singh (Gosainganj) and Rakesh Pratap Singh (Gauriganj) cross-voted in favour of BJP candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections, helping the BJP secure an additional seat. After giving them time to reconsider, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav expelled the trio in June 2025.
Reports surfaced recently suggesting that the three were in touch with the SP leadership. Akhilesh Yadav indicated that they could demonstrate their loyalty by voting for the party’s Rajya Sabha candidate as a pathway to possible reinduction.
However, on Monday, Gauriganj MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh issued a joint statement on behalf of the three, dismissing the speculation as baseless. “The Samajwadi Party should free itself from its illusions and stop spreading the idea that we may return. Some paid YouTubers aligned with the SP are circulating rumours to boost their TRPs and damage our image. They should stop this attempt, or we will be compelled to take legal action,” Singh posted on X.
Manoj Pandey said there was no question of returning, as their decision had been guided by conscience and the interests of their constituents. Abhay Singh said they remain unaffiliated in the Assembly and are focused on the development of their regions rather than making a political U-turn.
