Ludhiana: A 28-year-old woman has lodged an FIR against a resident of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly raping her on the pretext of marriage. The woman further alleged that the accused intentionally concealed the fact that he was already married. The woman had initially lodged a formal complaint with the local police in December 2025. Following an inquiry into the allegations, the police registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means.The complainant stated that she first came into contact with the accused approximately one year ago. During their acquaintance, the accused promised to marry her and subsequently developed physical relations with her. In December 2025, she discovered that the man was already married to another person. The woman stated that the accused cheated her by concealing this vital fact and exploited her by promising a marital union.ASI Om Prakash, the investigating officer, confirmed that the woman had lodged her complaint with the police on December 30, 2025. After conducting a thorough preliminary enquiry, the police officially registered the case against the accused, who is currently yet to be arrested. Authorities are now conducting efforts to locate and apprehend the individual based on the details provided in the complaint. This case highlights the application of new legal provisions under the BNS regarding instances where marriage promises are used as a deceptive tool for sexual exploitation. The investigation remains ongoing as police verify the claims made by the complainant regarding the timeline of the relationship and the accused’s marital status.
