Prayagraj: The UP secondary education board (UP Board) has now announced the use of non-tearable, highly durable paper for the preparation of tabulation registers (TRs) for high school and intermediate examinations in 2025.Eralier, the Board had introduced durable papers for mark sheets and certificates. This initiative was spearheaded by UP Board secretary, Bhagwati Singh. This is the first time that both the mark sheets-cum-certificates and the critical TRs will be printed on a specially designed, non-tearable paper that is resistant to water, tearing and damage from insects such as termites. The TR, or tabulation register, is a crucial document that contains complete details of the student, including name, date of birth, subjects and subject-wise marks obtained. It serves as the primary document for verification of records, especially during job recruitments and the issuance of passports. Previously, these TRs were maintained on regular paper, which was vulnerable to tampering. There were incidents where pages were systematically removed and replaced with altered versions to commit fraud. One such case involved collusion among staff at the Prayagraj regional office, leading to the illegal modification of TR pages. Legal action was initiated against those involved, and the investigation into the matter is still ongoing. With the new tamper-proof paper, such incidents are expected to become a thing of the past. The paper being used is not only tear-resistant but also impervious to common liquids such as tea, coffee and even vegetable spills. In the event of a spill, a simple wipe with a cloth is sufficient to restore the document to its original state. The content printed on these sheets cannot be scratched, altered, or overwritten, providing an additional layer of protection against forgery. Moreover, it is not possible to make any unwanted changes or scratch off the entries in the paper on which the mark sheet has been printed. On photocopying the mark sheet, the copy will always have ‘photocopy’ written on it. The board has printed the TR on the same paper.Officials say that this proactive step will greatly aid regional offices in maintaining the integrity of academic records for years to come. It also reflects the board’s commitment to transparency, security and modernisation in administrative practices. This change is a crucial reform in the education documentation system, reinforcing the UP Board’s efforts to safeguard students’ academic histories and prevent fraud, said officials of the Board.
