Alwar: At the newly designated Ramsar site (Dec 2025) of Siliserh Lake in Alwar district, Union forest minister and Alwar MP Bhupender Yadav along with Rajasthan forest minister Sanjay Sharma Saturday launched a bird festival that Yadav said will be organised every year in Feb at Siliserh Lake. At the festival, school children observed Surkhab, Brahminy Duck, owls and many native and foreign birds through binoculars and received information about more than 200 bird species that come to the lake.“Humans can go to the moon, but cannot create a small bird. We can operate machines, but cannot bring life to them. Only nature gives precious life, and we should live in harmony with it,” Yadav said while inaugurating the festival.Migratory birds have arrived in large numbers at Siliserh and water bodies around Sariska. Prominent among them are Bar Headed Goose, Surkhab (Ruddy Shelduck), Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Northern Shoveler, Common Pochard, Northern Pintail, etc. Apart from Siliserh, other water bodies in Sariska that host a large number of birds are Kankwari Dam, Hanuman Sagar, Hondi reservoir, Mangalsar Dam at Tehla, Mansarovar Dam, Jhilmil Dam, Ajabgarh Dam, Tildah water source and Jahaj reservoirs.
