Jaipur: An unidentified gunman fired several rounds at a rental car agency’s office in Shahpura town of Jaipur (Rural) Thursday afternoon.Deputy superintendent of police, Shahpura, Mukesh Choudhary told TOI that the incident likely stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the business owner and another faction over a car. However, police did not rule out other motives and also examined the possible involvement of local gangs and history-sheeters.Sources said four masked men arrived at the office on two motorcycles. After parking their bikes, one of the suspects then walked towards the office, pulled out a pistol, and fired multiple rounds in quick succession.Police said a preliminary assessment suggested around six rounds were fired, while local residents claimed they heard nearly eight gunshots. The firing took place in Ward No 6 of Shahpura town, an official said, adding that shopkeepers in the area shut their establishments and took shelter as shots rang out. A local resident told police that the gunman shouted something during the firing, but the exact words could not be understood due to the noise. After the firing, the suspects fled the spot. Police received information shortly after and rushed a team to the scene. Investigators retrieved CCTV footage of the incident.“The weapon appears to be a sophisticated firearm as it discharged multiple rounds. The shooter’s face was covered. We are checking whether his build and movements match persons involved in earlier firing cases,” an official said.Following the incident, police teams conducted searches in nearby villages and set up pickets at key locations.
