As the govt cancelled the transfer order of Rudresh Ghali, he was said to be working from home on Monday. He is expecting a reinstatement order from the govt by Wednesday. Meanwhile, citizens are expressing that it is better to appoint an IAS officer for the post.Sham Kamat, a management consultant and civic rights activist, said that too much political intervention in bureaucratic appointments leads to an impasse, and people are deprived of good governance. “Continuity is very important, especially during the situation when the twin cities are facing rain-related emergencies,” he added. He also noted that twin cities are the second largest in the state, but they often get KAS or KMAS officers for HDMC commissioner’s post, while their counterparts Mysuru and Mangaluru get IAS hands. “This is another instance of negligence towards the NK region,” he remarked. Many HDMC officials said that confusion has halted several major works. “We are in such a state that we are unsure whether we should wait for the next commissioner or follow the current commissioner,” they added. It is learnt that after pressure from city MLAs, the govt is issuing another order soon to reinstate Ghali as the HDMC commissioner. As Ghali was not relieved, he is allegedly working from home, and he visited HDMC for a few hours on Monday. He was transferred as additional commissioner of public instruction, Dharwad, just two months after being posted as HDMC commissioner. However, the order was recalled after opposition from elected representatives and residents. Now, HDMC’s former commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi is expected to assume charge as additional commissioner of public instruction, Dharwad. When contacted, Ghali’s assistants said he was busy with some official video conference.
