Hyderabad: In a tragic incident that underscores the fragility of emotional distress, a 20-year-old student allegedly died by suicide in Meerpet’s Badangpet area early Wednesday, minutes after the sudden death of her pet cat left her devastated. Meerpet police said B Himabindu, a BSc first year student, reportedly took the extreme step while her mother and other family members were in another room. At around 4 am, the family found their pet cat dead near the compound wall. Unable to come to terms with the loss, Himabindu attempted suicide around 4.40 am. Police said the cat died of natural causes. When family members went to check on her shortly after, they found her unconscious. Realising that she had attempted suicide, they rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment. “Our pet was with us for last two years. On Wednesday morning, we found the cat lying near our compound wall as if it were asleep. When Himabindu went to check, she realised it was dead. She was devastated. She used to spend a lot of time with our pet,” her family members said in their complaint. Meerpet inspector N Shankar Kumar said that Himabindu did not leave any suicide note. “Minutes before her death, her family members saw her entering kitchen. Later, she went into the bedroom,” police said. A case has been registered under section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS in connection with Himabindu’s death.
