Vadodara: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Harshad Parmar, son of former MLA Govind Parmar, as its candidate for the Umreth Assembly bypoll in Anand district, scheduled for April 23.The seat fell vacant following the demise of Govind Parmar (72) on March 6 after a brief illness.Harshad Parmar, 38, is currently the sarpanch of Chikhodara Gram Panchayat and serves as president of the Anand Taluka Sarpanch Association. The BJP is banking on his grassroots experience and his father’s legacy to retain the seat, with party leaders expressing confidence of a comfortable win.The constituency has over 2.42 lakh registered voters, with polling to be conducted across 306 booths using EVMs equipped with VVPAT. Authorities have deployed surveillance teams and appointed nodal officers to ensure smooth conduct of the election.The results will be declared on May 4. Meanwhile, opposition parties are yet to announce their candidates.
