Gurgaon: A 26-year-old Uber driver was tricked into stepping out of his vehicle and pushing it, only for a stranger to drive away with it in Sector 37 in the early hours of Friday. The complainant, Vikas, originally from Etah and a resident of Kakrola, told police he had purchased a Hyundai Aura earlier this year and had been driving it for Uber for the past two months.Around 1am, Vikas had accepted a booking from Shakti Park to Vishwakarma Nagar and was on his way to pick up the passenger when his car got stuck in a ditch on the NH-8 service road near the Anaj Mandi Hari Nagar underpass. As he struggled, a few passersby stopped to help. One man claimed he had helped remove another vehicle stuck at the same spot a day earlier. He then got into the driver’s seat and asked Vikas and others to push the car.The car was eventually out of the ditch but the accused sped away with it as soon as it was out, police said.Initially, Vikas assumed the man would return after taking a U-turn, but this did not happen. The next morning, around 9.30am, Ghaziabad police informed him that his car had been driven away from a petrol pump without payment.“The vehicle is a white Hyundai Aura (UP 82 BT 5521). It also contained the original registration certificate and the driver’s wallet, including his Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving licence and other documents,” an officer said. The owner has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for information leading to the recovery of the vehicle. An FIR has been registered at the Sector 37 police station.
