Patna: Police have arrested two youths for allegedly demanding extortion of Rs7 lakh from a woman after threatening her with a weapon in Bihta area. A country-made pistol and eight live cartridges were recovered from their possession.The arrested youths were identified as Aditya Kumar, a resident of Naubatpur, and Sachin Kumar of Dariyapur. They were apprehended following a complaint lodged by Shobha Devi at Bihta police station on May 22. According to the complaint, the two youths arrived at her residence on a motorcycle and demanded a ransom of Rs7 lakh. They also allegedly made multiple extortion calls via social media.Police said the duo brandished the firearm while demanding the money. When local villagers gathered at the spot, they fled.City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh while talking to reporters on Sunday confirmed the arrests. “The accused brandished weapons and demanded extortion money. They also shared photos with the weapons on social media,” he said, adding that the police registered a case immediately after receiving the complaint and arrested both individuals through technical surveillance and a targeted raid.Both have been remanded in judicial custody, said the SP. He further revealed that the arrested youths are associated with the notorious Daya Dubey gang. “Action is underway to arrest the remaining members of the gang,” he said.“The police have assured the woman that if she receives any such calls in future, she should immediately inform the police. We will take strict action against such people,” Singh said.
