New Delhi: In a case of attempted arson, two men allegedly tried to set a house on fire in the early hours of Sunday in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, triggering panic in the neighbourhood. Both of the accused are absconding, police said.According to police, information was received on Sunday that unknown persons attempted to set the complainant’s house ablaze. During the inquiry, CCTV footage from the area was analysed, which revealed the involvement of two persons who deliberately committed the act.The footage, which later surfaced on social media, purportedly shows the duo pouring a liquid, then lighting a matchstick and igniting a spot in a narrow lane on Railway Road around 3.10am. As the liquid is ignited, a massive fireball momentarily engulfs the side of the lane.Three motorcycles are seen parked in the immediate vicinity, including one positioned just inches from the source of the fire. Despite the initial intensity of the blaze, the flame is seen subsiding shortly after. Before the blaze subsides, the duo is seen fleeing the spot.A senior police officer said that the fire was reportedly ignited after a heated quarrel between the complainant and the accused standing near the residential house at a late hour. Angered by the argument, the accused allegedly set the house ablaze. The fire was suppressed by water thrown by the family from inside the house.Based on the complainant’s statement and technical evidence, an FIR has been registered at Adarsh Nagar police station under sections pertaining to mischief by fire, voluntarily causing hurt, negligent conduct with respect to fire and common intention of the BNS.The police officer said that one of the accused has been identified and is being traced, while the other one is yet to be identified. Police said teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the accused using CCTV footage and technical surveillance.
