Chintamani: Two elderly men died of injuries sustained when a car rammed into the motorcycle they were riding near Katamachanahalli, on the outskirts of Chintamani, Sunday. The deceased were identified as Nagaraja, 65, a resident of Kallahalli village in Chintamani taluk, and Venkata Reddy, 58, from Munthakadirenahalli in the same taluk.The accident occurred around 11am when the two men were travelling towards Chinnasandra village off the Bengaluru–Madanapalli national highway. Police said Nagaraja was attempting to take a turn when a car coming from Bengaluru towards Madanapalli at high speed crashed into the motorcycle, leaving both the rider and pillion rider with grievous injuries. As the victims were bleeding profusely, locals arranged to shift them to the general hospital in Chintamani, where they were given preliminary treatment.
Doctors later referred them to Nimhans in Bengaluru for advanced care. However, while being taken in an ambulance, both men died near Hoskote. After hitting the motorcycle, the occupants of the car fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle. Chintamani rural police have seized the car and launched a search for the driver and other occupants.
