Chennai: Two 12-year-old boys drowned in a pond in the North Colony area of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) on Wednesday after skipping school to bathe.The victims were identified as Sanjay and Praveen, both Class VI students at Ayanavaram Corporation School.The boys skipped school and went to the pond on Lake View Street to bathe. They ventured into the water and got trapped in the thick mud at the bottom.Passers-by and local residents who noticed the children in distress alerted authorities. A team from the ICF police station initiated a search operation. The bodies of both boys were recovered from the silt and moved to a govt hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered. Officials urged parents and school authorities to monitor students’ whereabouts during school hours, especially near open water bodies. TNN
