Ludhiana: Two brothers have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder after a man drowned in a canal near Gahaur village in Punjab’s Mullanpur Dakha area, police confirmed on Wednesday.Rohit and Sahil, both residents of Gahaur, were booked three days after the body of Saurav, a youth originally from Lucknow, was recovered from the Bassiyan Bet area. The incident took place on May 19, when the trio visited the canal bridge at Issewal and allegedly consumed alcohol before entering the water. According to police, Rohit and Sahil claimed Saurav had jumped into the canal after they had begun bathing, and despite their efforts, he had been swept away by the current. However, Saurav’s aunt, Nirmala Devi, filed a formal complaint alleging the brothers took her nephew from her home and were directly responsible for his death. She told police that Saurav’s clothes were later found abandoned on a scooter near the canal bridge. Following her complaint, the Dakha police registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).Station house officer concerned, inspector Amritpal Singh, confirmed that Rohit had been arrested and that efforts were underway to apprehend Sahil. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. MSID:: 121361412 413 |
