New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested two Bangladeshi nationals who were deported from Uttarakhand last year. The duo allegedly re-entered India through a jungle route along the international border and made Delhi their base. Police identified the accused as Dipto Kumar Pal alias Vikas (28) and Ruma Begum (27). Both are from Dhaka and lived in India without valid travel documents. The arrests came after the deportation of three Bangladeshi women on Feb 25 who were allegedly involved in a human trafficking and solicitation racket. During questioning, they claimed that a Bangladeshi national named Vikas had helped them cross the border. After bringing them to Delhi, he allegedly helped them find clients and collected money in return. “Investigation revealed that Vikas was running an illegal network that facilitated the entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India. He used an account on the encrypted messaging application IMO, through which his user ID was circulated among Bangladeshi nationals seeking illegal entry into India,” DCP (northwest) Akanksha Yadav said. Police also found that the woman accompanying him was allegedly involved in the same network. “Intelligence inputs suggested that the couple would visit the area near Jahangir Puri metro station, following which a trap was laid. An undercover officer approached them and offered money for illegal activities. After they agreed, cops arrested them,” DCP Yadav added. Police seized two smartphones from their possession. The phones were found to have the banned IMO application and six Bangladeshi identity documents stored in the phone gallery. TNN
