Coimbatore: City police commissioner A Saravana Sundar on Wednesday detained two autorickshaw drivers under the Goondas Act. They were arrested last month for robbing guest workers in the city.Race Course police had arrested three autorickshaw drivers- K Mohammed Azharuddin, 25, B Nowfal Basha, 29, and R Senthilkumar, 33, on June 18 for robbing 13,000 from three guest workers. The victims, unfamiliar with local areas, had approached the drivers for transportation outside the Coimbatore railway station. Instead of taking them to their destinations, the drivers drove around the city and extorted money. They forced Shivkumar, from Uttar Pradesh to get 4,000 from his family by threatening him. Similarly, they extorted 9,000 from Ali Kadar Sheik and Kushal Biswas, from West Bengal, via UPI payments.They were subsequently attested and remanded in judicial custody, Race Course police inspector Kandasamy submitted a detailed report against Senthilkumar and Nowfal Basha, based on their criminal history, recommending their detention under the Goondas Act.
