Daltonganj: A tusker entered Latehar on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Foresters took around six hours to drive it ack to the forest owing to the people’s “irresponsible behabiour”, officials said.Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said, “The tusker entered Latehar town around 4 am and wandered around Kutchery and the stadium. As word spread, scores of people turned up to see the elephant. A quick response team of the forest division arrived to drive the elephant safely to the forest” Ranger N K Mahto said, “It took us around six hours to drive it towards the Tarwadeeh Sarju forest. The tusker would have left earlier, but for the crowd that blocked all its exit routes to have a glimpse of it or take a selfie. It’s sheer luck that the elephant didn’t go amok due to the crowd’s irresponsible behaviour.”“The tusker was first spotted in Chatra district. It reached Ranchi and then Lohardaga, where it trampled one to death,” he added.
