Mangaluru: The committee appointed by the govt to study the criteria followed by Andhra Pradesh while declaring an additional official language has submitted its report, linked to the proposal to make Tulu Karnataka’s second official language.The govt had constituted a six-member study committee under the chairpersonship of KM Gayathri, then director of department of Kannada and Culture, in the presence of Taranath Gatti Kapikad, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.The committee visited the Andhra Pradesh secretariat and various departments and offices on Jan 19 and 20. It studied the norms, procedures and criteria adopted while declaring Urdu as the second official language in Andhra Pradesh and prepared a detailed report.The members submitted the report to J Manjunath, secretary of the department of Kannada and Culture, at Vikas Soudha. They also submitted a note on the Tulu language’s background and history.
