New Delhi: A truck carrying gas cylinders went on a rampage in southeast Delhi’s Okhla on Monday morning, killing one person and critically injuring three others after hitting four pedestrians, a two-wheeler, and a fruit cart. Police have arrested the truck driver.The deceased was identified as Sabbir, 36, a resident of Dakshinpuri in south Delhi. The injured — Mohammad Shanur, 32; Suresh, 44; and Bibti, 80 — are undergoing treatment and are in critical condition.According to police, a PCR call was received at around 10.45 am regarding an accident near the Okhla Tank Bus Stand. Responding officers found a badly-damaged motorcycle and debris from fruit carts scattered along the road. The crime team from the southeast district conducted a videographic survey of the site.Eyewitnesses reported that at approximately 10.15 am, the truck—coming from the Ashram side—first hit a parked motorcycle before ramming into multiple pedestrians. The driver tried to flee but was apprehended by alert traffic police officials near a hospital in Sarita Vihar.Local residents and PCR personnel rushed the injured to a hospital, where Sabbir was declared brought dead. Police said Sabbir had been on his way to pay a water bill at the time of the incident. The truck was transporting gas cylinders for refilling at a nearby plant.The driver, identified as Brhamdeo Singh, 43, a resident of Sitamarhi, Bihar, has been arrested. The truck has been seized.A case has been registered under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (act endangering life), and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Medical reports indicate that Shanur suffered head and pelvic injuries with nasal and oral bleeding; Suresh sustained injuries to the head and leg, along with shoulder pain; and Bibti also suffered a head injury. All remain hospitalised.Police said further investigation is underway.
