TNNLudhiana: A truck driver involved in a fatal accident was arrested after the victim’s relatives staged a protest on the Ludhiana-Delhi National Highway. The victim died on Saturday and his family members blocked the NH stretch near Dhandari flyover for about half an hour on Tuesday morning, accusing the police of failing to arrest the accused despite identifying him.On Saturday night, factory worker Rakesh Kumar Singh, resident of New Ambedkar Nagar, Giaspura, was on his way home with his friend, Vaij Nath on a bike driven by Rakesh. A speeding truck rammed into the bike near Dhandari flyover. Rakesh and Vaij Nath were knocked down and run over by the truck. While Vaij Nath survived with a fractured foot, Rakesh succumbed to serious injuries in a hospital.Police lodged an FIR under sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (A, B) (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 324 (4) (mischief causing damage), and 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of BNS on the complaint of Rakesh’s brother-in-law Randhir Singh, resident of Samrat Colony, 33 Feet Road.One of the protesters, Mahesh Kumar, claimed that the truck driver was nabbed after the accident and the transporter who owned the truck accompanied passersby to the hospital the victims were rushed to. He alleged that the transporter escaped from the hospital when Rakesh died. He added that despite the truck driver being identified, police failed to arrest him for the past two days. As traffic on the stretch was disrupted, police reached the spot to pacify the protesters.
