Gurgaon: A 38-year-old truck driver died on Feb 22 after he got trapped inside the mangled cabin of his vehicle following a collision with a speeding dumper near Bilaspur Chowk a day earlier. Following the accident, the dumper driver fled the spot with his vehicle. The deceased, Umesh Kumar, a native of Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, worked as a driver for transporter Praveen Yadav. Yadav filed a complaint on Friday and police registered a complaint under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS against the unidentified dumper driver. The victim’s employer told police that he and the victim’s family were earlier traumatised due to Umesh’s death and could not lodge an immediate complaint.According to the complaint filed at the Bilaspur police station, Umesh was driving his truck from Delhi to Bhiwadi when the accident took place on Feb 21. Around 4.40am, when he reached Bilaspur Chowk, a dumper truck, moving ahead of him at a very high speed, suddenly applied brakes and came to a stop. Umesh could not control his vehicle and crashed into the rear of the dumper.The impact left him trapped inside the cabin of the truck. While trapped, Umesh called his employer and informed him about the accident, stating that his legs were severely injured. “After receiving the call, I immediately reached the spot where our truck was parked on the roadside but the driver was already being taken to a nearby hospital,” Praveen, a Rajasthan resident, said.A passer-by informed the police control room about the accident. The victim was first admitted to a private hospital near Bilaspur Chowk and later shifted to hospitals in Rewari and Jaipur due to his critical condition. His family also reached the Jaipur hospital, where he died during treatment at SMS Trauma Centre in Jaipur on February 22.An officer said efforts are on to identify and trace the dumper driver involved in the accident through technical intelligence. Further investigation is in progress.
