Jaipur: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will organise a half-day seminar on ‘Rating of Buildings for Digital Connectivity’ at the Rajasthan International Centre on Tuesday, aiming to promote adoption of its new regulatory framework across sectors. The framework, notified on Oct 25, 2024, applies to residential complexes, govt buildings, commercial spaces, public areas, stadiums and transport corridors. Properties will be rated from one star to five star, with the highest rating indicating superior digital connectivity readiness. Officials said the initiative comes amid rising indoor internet usage and rapid expansion of 4G and 5G networks. The regulations establish a transparent, technology-neutral system to assess how well buildings are equipped for seamless connectivity. The rating will be based on parameters such as fibre readiness, in-building mobile coverage, wi-fi availability, broadband speeds and overall user experience. It is expected to help buyers, tenants and businesses make informed decisions, while encouraging developers to incorporate robust digital infrastructure at the design stage. TRAI officials said reliable indoor connectivity has become critical as governance, services and business operations increasingly move online, with most data consumption now occurring indoors. Around 150–200 delegates, including representatives from urban local bodies, planning departments, telecom firms, infrastructure providers, hotel groups and academia, are expected to attend. The seminar aims to build awareness and drive wider adoption of the rating system in Rajasthan.
