Jamshedpur: A 25-year-old patient allegedly killed himself by jumping off the fourth floor of govt-run MGM Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) here on Friday. The deceased, a resident of Pursudih police station limits, was admitted to the hospital on March 13 after he complained of acute chest pain. Sources said he was a drug addict and was also HIV-positive. He was in a distressed state for the past few days, the sources added.Police, quoting the victim’s mother, said that around 4 am, he woke up to go to the toilet, and then disappeared, only to be found lying dead minutes after leaving the ward where she was present.Immediately after hearing a thud on the ground, night guards and ward boys rushed to the spot, rescued the patient and rushed him to the emergency ward, but he died during treatment.Earlier on Thursday evening, he had allegedly tried to die by suicide in a similar manner, but his mother prevented him from doing so.MGM police station officer-in-charge Sachin Das said that prima facie it seems a suicide case, but detailed investigation will determine the exact cause of death. “The body has been sent for autopsy,” he said.
