CUDDALORE: A Cuddalore court sentenced a 44-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife, and to undergo seven years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to destroy the evidence of the crime after suspecting her fidelity at Vadalur, Cuddalore district. Both terms will run concurrently, ordered the Mahila court sessions judge G Kulasekaran.According to special public prosecutor Valarmathi Jayachandran, P Premananth, 34, a driver from Vadalur, questioned his wife, P Dhanalakshmi, a nurse, for coming home late on Jan 25, 2016. When she ignored his questions, he hit her on the head, and when she fell, he sat on her and strangulated death with his bare hands.He attempted to enact a drama that his wife died by suicide. Vadalur police, which registered a case, on preliminary inquiries based on postmortem reports, found that she was murdered. The police took the driver into custody. On sustained interrogations, he confessed to murdering his wife and attempting to destroy the evidence.
