Suri: A TMC worker was killed in a bomb blast in Birbhum on Saturday night. The deceased, Baitullah Sheikh (40), was the former karmadhyaksha of Mayureswar-I panchayat samiti, police said.The incident took place around 8pm at Bishiya village in Mallarpur when Sheikh was speaking to some party workers at a tea stall. Locals said a group of men surrounded the shop and hurled three bombs before escaping. Sheikh was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.Locals said Sheikh’s wife currently holds the position of karmadhyaksha in the local panchayat. Birbhum police superintendent Amandeep said, “We are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.” A case has been registered. TMC condemned the attack and called for swift action against the culprits.The attack happened just days after another Trinamool leader, Piyush Ghosh, was murdered in the Sainthia Police Station area.
