PURI: Days after the minor girl’s alleged burning, yet another case of harassment has come to light in Puri district where three sisters were reportedly harassed by a group of miscreants on Monday evening.According to police, the girls were returning home after visiting the Jagannath temple when six youths allegedly intercepted them. The miscreants forcibly snatched their gold chains and handbags and also misbehaved with them, pulling and intimidating the sisters. One of the girls, a minor, managed to alert her family, who later rescued them from the spot.Following a complaint, two accused from Brahmagiri area were nabbed on Tuesday. “A case has been registered and two suspects detained. Search is on to nab the remaining culprits. All will be arrested and produced in court soon,” said SP (Puri) Pinak Mishra. The incident took place near a poorly-lit stretch of road close to a bus parking zone. Locals alleged that the area has turned into a hub of anti-socials who consume intoxicants and target women after dark. “The road remains completely dark and lacks proper street lighting. Taking advantage of this, miscreants often indulge in loot and harassment,” said the father of one of the victims. The case has sparked strong criticism from locals and intellectuals, demanding strict action against the accused. Many have also urged the administration to increase evening patrolling on Puri outskirts and install adequate street lighting in vulnerable zones.
