Coimbatore: The Vadavalli police on Saturday arrested three men for possession of more than 3kg ganja for sales.A police officer identified the arrested trio as S Edison Chakravarthy, 26, D Richard Sachin, 26, both natives of Dindigul district, and P Walter William, 21, of Uppilipalayam in Coimbatore city. He said Edison and Richard were history-sheeters and had several cases, including a murder case, pending against them. “We spotted the trio travelling on a bike during a routine patrol near Veerakeralam at Vadavalli. We stopped them for a vehicle check and found they were carrying 3.5kg of ganja in a plastic cover. They were also in possession of a weighing machine and knives,” the officer said. The Vadavalli police seized the contraband, bike, weighing machine and knives from the trio, who have been booked under Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(B), 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They were arrested and produced before the judicial magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody. They were subsequently lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
