doneHyderabad: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) recommended that the Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana, issue clear and binding instructions to all police officers in the state, directing them not to threaten, influence, or coerce any complainant pursuing legal remedies. The commission, presided over by Justice Shameem Akther, examined a complaint filed by G Prashanth Kumar and another individual, who alleged illegal detention, physical assault, and coercion by police officials at Santoshnagar police station in April 2018. After hearing the complainant and examining the records, the commission observed that while the matter is currently pending before the court, the allegations of police officers pressuring the complainant to withdraw a private complaint warranted preventive intervention. The commission recommended that the DGP issue explicit directions to prevent such misconduct, ensure the safety of complainants, and initiate a preliminary departmental enquiry into the alleged actions of the concerned officers. It also directed that the complainant not be subjected to any further harassment and be allowed to pursue legal remedies without fear or pressure. The commission emphasised that police officials must respect the rights of individuals seeking justice and avoid any actions that may undermine legal processes.
