Kanpur: Police arrested three men accused of stealing donation box from a Durga temple in Govind Nagar, DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said.The theft took place on March 6 at the Durga Mandir in 13 Block. The thieves entered the temple by cutting window grill and stole the donation box. The priest found the box missing on the next day and informed the police.Govind Nagar police examined CCTV footage and identified three accused. After scanning nearly 110 CCTV footage, the police arrested Chhotu Kumar and Sumit Balmiki, residents of Ramasre Nagar Kachchi Basti, and Krishna alias Utkarsh Shukla of Gujaini F Block.The DCP said the box contained approximately Rs 20,000 which accused distributed among themselves and threw it at the railway ground in Nirala Nagar. One of the accused bought a mobile phone while the remaining amount was spent on liquor. Police have recovered the donation box.Three cases each were registered against Chhotu and Sumit at Govind Nagar police station, and two cases were registered against Krishna at Govind Nagar and Barra police stations, said police. tnn
