Hyderabad: Legislative affairs minister D Sridhar Babu on Tuesday said the Congress govt is committed to the development of Hyderabad as a global destination, and sanctioned 15,000 crore worth works in Greater Hyderabad limits for civic infrastructure such as flyovers, road bridges and elevated corridors etc. He said the govt did not stall the developmental works sanctioned during the BRS govt under the strategic road development plan (SRDP).Replying to queries in the assembly during the question hour, the minister refuted the allegations of BRS MLAs that the Congress govt spent only 122 crore and many works were stalled. Earlier, BRS MLAs KP Vivekanand, D Sudheer Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Mutha Gopal, P Sabita Indrareddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao and Ch Malla Reddy asked how many flyovers, underpasses and link roads were constructed by the Congress govt and also the expenditure incurred in the past two and a half years.“The govt is going with a vision. It takes some time for planning, and grounding of the works. When BRS was in power, it initially planned for SRDP in 2014 and actual works began in 2016. We are also taking some time for planning, scientific traffic studies and execution,” Sridhar Babu said.Dismissing the allegations that Congress had stopped the works sanctioned during the BRS regime and was showing a partisan attitude, he said Shashtripuram, Shilpa Layout, Aramghar and other works were incomplete when the Congress came to power, and were now being completed. He said there could be one or two projects, which were sanctioned in view of a political angle, that were cancelled. The minister said the govt was facing some issues and challenges with contractors, like the Suchitra to Medchal flyover and Ghatkesar flyover, and the govt was talking to the Centre to resolve the issues.“The state govt has sanctioned 2,250 crore for various infrastructure works in the 2026-27 fiscal, which will be completed,” he said.On the advice of BRS MLA Sudheer Reddy, he said the govt would take up the West to East corridor along the Musi as part of the project that decongests the city on main roads. He said the BRS govt had earlier sanctioned high-rise buildings in the western part of the city and if they were completed in the next one and a half years, there would be chaos, including some project near Rajendra Nagar. “The govt proposed Future City to decongest the core and western part of the city,” Sridhar Babu said. With the increasing migration of people, there was a need for satellite townships and decongestion of the choked areas, he said.Replying to Medchal MLA Ch Malla Reddy’s question on Jawaharnagar dump yard and pollution issues, he said chief minister A Revanth Reddy has asked the authorities to identify the dumping yards in all the four corners of the city, at least three sides of the city,” the minister said.
