Kendrapada: Police on Tuesday apprehended a 17-year-old juvenile for raping a nine-year-old girl on Monday evening at a village in the district.The incident occurred when the girl was going to watch a jatra near her village. On the way, the accused dragged her to an isolated spot and raped her. The survivor revealed the incident to her parents. Her mother filed an FIR in the police station and alleged that her daughter was sexually assaulted by the accused.“We identified the juvenile offender with the help of CCTV camera near the house of the survivor. Both of them were medically examined in the district headquarters hospital,” said investigating officer Mohammad Jamshed.“Acting on the FIR, we apprehended the juvenile. During interrogation, he confessed to his crime,” Jamshed said. Apparently, he also threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone about the incident, the officer added.Police booked the accused under various sections of BNS and Pocso Act. “The juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Kendrapada on Tuesday. The JJB rejected his bail plea and sent him to an observation home in Angul,” Jamshed said.
