Ahmedabad: The decision to recruit school assistants for govt primary schools through private agencies has triggered strong opposition from the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshanik Mahasangh, Gujarat. The organisation has submitted a written appeal to the chief minister, demanding that the recruitment mode be scrapped immediately. The union argued that outsourcing hiring to private agencies undermines transparency, compromises merit-based selection, and threatens the quality of education. It warned that agency-driven recruitment could deny deserving candidates fair opportunities. The matter was earlier raised with the education department before the 2024-25 budget, but implementation in some districts has now intensified dissatisfaction across the sector.Union president Mitesh Bhatt also alleged financial exploitation, claiming contractors receive Rs 23,000-24,000 per worker from govt but pay employees Rs 3,000-4,000 less, retaining the difference.Citing the National Education Policy 2020, the union stressed the need to strengthen public education rather than promote outsourcing. It urged govt to restore direct, transparent, merit-based recruitment to safeguard education quality and students’ interests.
