Pune: Residents of Elementa Cooperative Housing Society in Tathwade held a march on Sunday to protest against Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s proposed 18m wide road in the draft revised development plan that passes through their society.Chairman Pravin Farad said over 6,000 residents from the society and nearby areas would be affected. “We are not against development, but it must be fair, inclusive, and respectful,” he added. The society, built in 2016, has 900 flats, and the new road will pass through its amenity space and parking areas, a resident said. “Development should not come at the cost of displacing people or violating their rights,” he added.Secretary Snehal Fating said that the PCMC sanctioned the plan for the society and gave a building completion certificate, and now they want to build a road here. “We have a 24m road that passes merely 50m away from our premises,” he said. They have already submitted their objections against the draft DP to PCMC.The civic body published a draft of the revised DP for the city last month which drew criticism as several proposed roads affect residential structures. Last week, residents from Rahatni, Walhekarwadi, Chinchwadenagar, Bijlinagar, and Thergaon protested over the proposed DP roads.A senior PCMC official said that citizens can file their objections with the town planning department’s office within 60 days after the draft DP is published. The final draft is sent to the state govt only after these objections are heard by a dedicated committee appointed for it.
