Chennai: The DMK held its second round of seat-sharing discussions with Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) on Thursday at the party headquarters, as alliance partners finalise seat allocations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly election.
It comes a day after the Communist Party of India (CPI) concluded its seat-sharing agreement with the DMK for the election scheduled for April 23. The agreement was signed in the presence of chief minister MK Stalin and Tamil Nadu CPI secretary M. Veerapandian and granted the CPI candidacy in five assembly constituencies as part of the DMK-led alliance.
Haasan, president of MNM, refrained from commenting on the outcome of the talks. “I am going to Telangana for an award function. I don’t want to talk politics now. When I come back, I will speak,” he told media persons at the Chennai airport.

Earlier this month, the Congress sealed its seat-sharing deal with the ruling DMK, bringing an end to weeks of public sparring. Under the agreement, the Congress will contest 28 seats, three more than it did in 2021, along with one Rajya Sabha seat.
The Congress had initially demanded 34 seats and an additional Rajya Sabha berth and had also sought a share in power. The demand was firmly rejected by Stalin, who maintained that a coalition government model would not work in Tamil Nadu.
Another ally, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), will contest four seats in the 234-member state assembly.
